Right now, the best way to give to Body Politic Theater is to support this exciting production of Lemkin's House, by Catherine Filloux. Below is the fundraising letter that has been delivered to our current supporters.
In his February 13, 2006 review of the play Lemkin’s House, New York Times theatre critic Neil Genzlinger described that “words are no match for action, and neither are mere laws. Raphael Lemkin, a real-life lawyer who died in 1959, learns this in his imagined afterlife in "Lemkin's House," a compelling, well-acted play by Catherine Filloux.” During its sold-out 16-performance United States premiere at 78th Street Theatre Lab the play not only touched audience members with its story of a great man, but engaged them about the horrors of genocide and the realities of how the world reacts – or does not react at all – to the gruesome truths of ethnic cleansing.
Body Politic Theater is honored to announce its inaugural presentation, a transfer of this highly successful production to New York City’s McGinn Cazale Theatre, in a co-production with Vital Theatre Company, running September 13 – October 8, 2006. Winner of the 2006 PeaceWriting Award from the OMNI Center for Peace, Lemkin’s House is a true example of how theatre has the power to provoke thought as well as emotion. With this transfer, Body Politic Theater will have the opportunity to expose the play to many more people and engage this larger audience in a variety of supporting events, panels and talk-backs. American Jewish World Service president Ruth Messinger will lead a panel on Darfur on opening night.
Even with a starred recommendation in both the New York Times and The Village Voice, simply having the desire to transfer the production does not automatically make it happen. While we have secured a portion of the funding necessary, we need the support of generous patrons such as your self in order for Body Politic Theater to be able to remount the production. We would be extremely grateful if you would consider making a 100% tax-deductible contribution to aid in this transfer of Lemkin’s House.
A donation to Global Children, our fiscal sponsor, permits a full tax deduction when one contributes. You may use the enclosed envelope to mail your contribution. We ask that you please make the check out to Global Children, Inc. and write “Lemkin’s House” on the memo line. You will receive confirmation for tax purposes directly from Global Children.
Body Politic Theater is so proud to be able to have the opportunity to present Lemkin’s House to the public – and to count you among our trusted supporters.
